Fierce Friday: What Courage Looks Like.

Remember Mandy?  The one who competed in a triathlon a month after learning that she has Hodgkin’s Lymphoma?  The one who’s a listener, writer, world traveler, mother, survivor, fighter, lawyer, teacher, thinker, friend? Well, check out this jaw-dropping awesomeness, this take-no-prisoners, taking-charge-of-my-own-hair-loss-and-removal, thankyouverymuch ‘do Mandy now has. Hopefully halfway through her chemo treatment, Mandy decided to turn her hair loss into read more »

When the Older Two are Away, #3 Will Play.

#3 wasn’t quite sure what to do with himself while his big brothers were away at camp.  The house felt noticeably different without them here, and he responded to their absence not by flourishing under my attention, but by thrashing around on the furniture, hitting inanimate objects, and basically looking for trouble at every opportunity.  Mealtimes were an exercise in read more »

Friday Funnies: Lizards for Sale!

On his last day of school, the Eldest spotted a lizard up in a tree, shimmied up the tree, and caught the lizard. He was holding it in his hand when I came to pick him up, and he was still holding it in his hand when we got home, even after a little apres school celebration at the indoor read more »

What Friends Do.

Yesterday, I found this in the mailbox. If getting a package addressed to me wasn’t excitement enough, then looking at all those “CELEBRATE” stamps definitely did the trick.  I wasn’t expecting anything, ie door hardware, camp clothing labels (oh right, didn’t order those!  Marked up the whole house with a sharpie before sending the kids off…), or any of the other read more »

Monday-A Sale!

Last week we spent a fair amount of time at the “outside pool”, as #3 calls it, though admittedly not nearly as much as Heather and her kids, who are both doing swim team.  They are there allthetime, apparently, practicing, writing all over each other with sharpies, going off diving boards, and, of course, swimming in swim meets. Since we read more »

Puzzles.

Lately, I’ve been working on a jigsaw puzzle. This will likely come as a surprise to those of you who know me, given that I’m spatially challenged in a big way.  I once had difficulty putting a cassette in its holder (wow, just dated myself) if that’s any indication of the kinds of trouble I have with fitting things together.  If read more »

Running with the Dawgs

This is Eben.  He is THE brown dog at Brown Dog Farm. My in-laws live about 15 minutes outside Madison, Georgia, just south of heaven and then take a right onto Brown Dog Farm.  It truly is a getaway from the kind of busyness and crazy that is our normal routine in Greenville.  Just 25 minutes away is the University of Georgia, read more »

A Friday Thought.

It occurs to me as I clean up  lunch this afternoon that, although I don’t have to pack any more lunches until August, I do still have to feed my children three-ish times a day.  And provide them with transportation, energy-burning activities, opportunities for continued learning, love, affection, etc.  All those things. I am, admittedly, an occasional summer-hater.  With the read more »
